Court Report: 10th August 2020 @ Snaresbrook Crown Court
I’m in Court 17 before Judge Ms Recorder M Loram QC for her second hearing of the day – this time it is the sentencing of “GV” at 10.45.
Recorders are part-time circuit judge that are expected to sit for between 3 and 6 weeks per year. (Not to be confused with Honorary Recorders who are Senior Circuit Judges!)
Unfortunately, the admin gremlins have scuppered this hour-long-hearing.
We hear that the defendant was initially charged with two offences: the first count was pled guilty to resulting in today’s sentencing and the second count had no evidence offered by the prosecution and so was dropped (resulting in him being “released in error” back in May.)
Initially listed for September 15th the defendant’s solicitors were surprised upon discovering it on the Cause list the Friday previous.
Attempts to contact the defendant over the weekend to advise attendance today was required were not successful and so the dock lies empty.
The court decides to adjourn the hearing to September 15th (for the second time) with hope that the defendant will keep the appointment and turn up. In any event the Prosecution tells the court that the offence would have been time served so he gains no advantage in failing to show.
