I’m before His Honour Judge A Gordon for an unsuccessful 11.30 sentencing hearing of a Mr ‘TA’ in Court 20.
The defence submit that Mr ‘TA’ was due to be produced but according to reports from the prison he has “refused to attend”. Counsel recall anecdotes whereby reasons for a no-show have not always been accurate.
Attempts by the court staff to obtain further information are unsuccessful.
Specifically referring to the allegation of refusal the Judge tells the court he’s not going to “rely on anything passed along by Chinese whispers” and so the court adjourns the case for 6 weeks.
No prejudice to the defendant as his own barrister tells the court “He’s not going anywhere”.
