R v Venables KC: The Agreed Facts

Top tax barrister Robert Venables KC, 78, of Old Square Tax Chambers is currently facing three counts of dishonestly cheating the public revenue in criminal proceedings before a jury at Southwark Crown Court.

Jurors at Southwark Crown Court were read the so-called ‘Agreed Facts’ and a ‘glossary of terms’, over a period of 56 minutes, by barrister Michael Hick on Friday 5th June 2026.

Mr Justice Calver explained that agreed facts are uncontested evidence, one purpose of which is to make the attendance of a witness unnecessary.


The trial continues.

At this hearing the CPS were represented by Julian Christopher KC. Mr Venables was represented by Stuart Biggs KC.
